Das Projekt zielt auf die Entwicklung einer interdisziplinären Theorie metaphorisch strukturierter Ausdrucksbewegungen und auf die Erarbeitung einer interdisziplinären Methodologie. Es verbindet den linguistischen Ansatz empirischer Rekonstruktion dynamischer Aufmerksamkeits- und Affektorientierung in der Alltagskommunikation am Paradigma multimodaler Metaphorik mit dem filmanalytischen Modell der Analyse von Ausdrucksbewegungen und Empfindungsbildern.

Unsere Hypothese ist, dass multimodal realisierte Metaphern (Sprechen und Körperbewegung) in der Alltagskommunikation mit einer dynamischen Vergegenwärtigung und Konstruktion kognitiver und affektiver Erfahrung einhergehen, die sich als je spezifische Formen von Ausdrucksbewegungen beschreiben lassen. Bezogen auf die mediale Inszenierung von Metaphern (Raum-, Bildinszenierung und Soundkomposition) gehen wir davon aus, dass diese eine spezifische Form filmischer Ausdrucksbewegung organisieren, der eine zentrale Funktion in der dynamisch strukturierten Affektorientierung der Rezipienten zukommt.

Das Projekt untersucht deshalb die Korrespondenzen zwischen Erscheinungsformen und Funktionsweisen dieses Typus metaphorisch organisierter Ausdrucksbewegung in alltagsweltlicher Face-to-Face-Kommunikation und in unterschiedlichen Formaten audiovisueller Medien (Nachrichten und Sportberichterstattung, TV-Serien, deutsche Spielfilme, klassisches Hollywood Kino (Hitchcock, Film noir)). Die Bestimmung der Formen multimodaler Metaphorik sowie die Analyse ihres Vorkommens in den verschieden Formaten bilden den Kontext für die Entwicklung einer Methodologie und die empirische Grundlage für die Formulierung einer Theorie multimodaler Metaphorik als Ausdrucksbewegung.
